Sunil Gangopadhyay is a name not to be forgotten in the prolonged history of Bangla literature, especially for his own kind of poems and novels. He had a sharp observation about the happenings around him and quite easily he could write down the reactions with a witty sense of humor. Art is like a window and the while a man sees through it, becomes an artist. Sunil had this window with him, which led him to a bright place in Bangla literature.Birth and Bringing up: Sunil Gangopadhyay was born in Faridpur, which now belongs to Bangladesh, on the seventh of September, 1934. The separation of Pakistan and India in 1947 made people like Sunil leave their motherland that in fact, had a great impact on Sunil's writings. Perhaps the writer personality in Sunil is a direct outcome of that particular incident. He obtained Master of Arts degree in Bangla from the University of Kolkata.
Marriage: He married Swati Bandopadhyay in 1967, which is the year they introduced their only son souvik to the world.
The Journey through Literature: In the year 1953 he, with some of his friends, founded a Bangla poetry magazine named Krittibas. That was the first editorial experiment by the man and later on he successfully performed the duty of an editor for few more ones. Krittbas came with a new generation of poets playing with new kinds of rhythm and themes in their poems. Later Sunil worked for some other publications amongst which Anandabazar is pronounced most. From Bangladesh to India, the whole world as well, it had been a long journey Sunil made that flourished his versatility. Sunil Gangopadhyay is also known by some of his pen names which are, Nil Upadhyay, Sanatan Pathak.
Famous Works: In a long period of successful writing career Sunil Gangapadhyay earned a lot of applause from the world. He has been, from his very basic instinct, a novelist. His poems are somewhat experimental maneuvers that did not touch the peak of literary value, but yet his poems are strongly applauded by some of the critics of present time. Kakababu series is something Sunil created for the children, which still is one of the most popular serieses in Bangla. The series consists more than 25 novels. Prothom Alo is a work that proved him to be a great spectator of his time. Satyajit Roy made a movie named Pratidwandi that raised the smoke of controversy against Sunil. Moner Manush is another book by Sunil Gangyapadhyay on Lalon Shai, a singer and philosopher of eighteenth century, which is later used for film. Shei Shomoy is another notable work Sunil Gangyapadhyay. There are numerous popular books of Sunil Gangopadhyay except for the mentioned ones that brought him to the peak at the moment he is. Even after his death applaud from his fans echoes in the wind.
